I've been reflecting the past few days on the church body and our responsibilities and relation to it. We are not to "go" to church. We are to "be" the church. What is our role?
Can we say as Paul did to the Romans that he "thanks my God because of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world."
Is our faith a hot fire in our very being or some kind of imitation flame we put up on the mantel for decoration?
When I was a girl my favorite job was to take out the trash because we lived in the country and I would get to start the fire. Growing up the way we did taught us also to respect that flame and the consequences of it.
I have to admit I loved playing in the fire barrel. To light a twisted piece of paper and then touch it to others and then watch them all come together into a giant flame that radiated heat.
We have the responsibility as believers if that is who we say we are to keep the fire of our faith and spirituality burning hot and then to come together with other believers to radiate that fire around the world.
Beginning with our spouse, our children, our local church and community, our state and our nation and then our world.
What would happen if each of us tended that fire within us as if our very lives are at stake?
What if I tended it knowing my childrens' lives depend on it?
I wonder what the world or even my family for that matter look like if my focus was intentionally building the fire of my faith and joining together with like minded people around the world?
Our fires need oxygen, fuel and heat. For me this is a passion for His Word, Praise, Worship, Prayer and Deep Connections with other believers.
