Where am I? Am I lost? Or have I just lost it!
Andy Stanley reminds us in his book, The Principle of the Path, that we have to know where we are. What path we are on. To strip away all of the self-deception and lies and mask and self-perceptions and self-righteousness. (My paraphrase!)
We cannot get on a new path if we will not leave the one we are on!!!
This is true in so many area of my life. I walk along knowing that the path I'm on is not the one I'm supposed to take but having a sense of settling and apathy.
Like Eyore walking down a path. I can hear him now. "Oh well. Guess I'm on the wrong path. Oh well. Guess I'll just have to keep walking. Nobody cares."
Sometimes we've gone so far down the path that we are on that we know that we can't just back up! That part of our life is gone so we think we have to keep going on the same road of regret. I should have. I could have. I'm too old now. Too responsible. Too busy. Blah Blah Blah
Hope I'm not the only one who talks this way? We have to submit to God and ask His help in stepping onto the path that He has for us and then we have to walk on it. WALK IN THE WAY WE SHOULD GO!
I can't plop my butt on the ground like a toddler in a poopy diaper waiting for someone to come along pick me up and change me! I have to choose to walk on a new path!!!
Romans 3 tells us the same thing! Taking a good look at our own mess. He says to us "through the law we become conscious of our sin."
God's grace is so good and without it we cannot even know Him. God's grace is sufficient for all that we need. But His law shows us our reality-the truth about who we are.
It is ugly if we get real and take a good hard look at ourselves.
How do we appreciate and really grab hold of grace if we don't even know we are lost.
God I'm lost. I've messed up my GPS and I've went and gone my own way again! I don't know where I am and what path I'm on. I want to think I know. I don't. God help me to see where I am and point my feet to the path of truth that leads to You!!!!
