Satiated

All floods are not equal.  

Right now our ground is satiated; rivers, lakes and dams are full.   The flooding caused by all of this water is devastating for many.  

It seems like another time when our area was dying from a long drought.  Even the experts said that it would take years to refill Lake Mac and yet today we are worried when the wind comes up and the waves lap onto the road.

I wondered as I drove across the state yesterday if the water is just moving through quickly or does it find it's way to the groundwater and is it recharging our ground with life giving moisture?  That is where water makes the largest life giving difference.  Water that seeps through the topsoil and the rocks to the aquifer below us is critical to our future.

Farmers and ranchers and naturalist know it takes vision to see past what is right in front of us.  Vision to look past quick yields and quick gains on cattle at the risk of losing the land.

As I read this morning a quote from a man from a restricted nation as his congregation received Bibles.  

He said, "May peace be with you!  Thank God!  We have received that treasure you donated.  Thank you for supplying us with spiritual food so that we did not feel hungry anymore.  I will make more people get these spiritual food and eternal life.  We will never let you down.  We will read this precious book carefully to preach gospels widely to make more people's spiritual lives grow up." Then I looked across the table to my neglected Bible. 

We are surrounded by a flood of information.  So much is running by us that it is creating damage and satiating us to the point of not having any room for real life giving water.  

The Living Water.  The water that can seep into our soul, our minds and our hearts.  Let's have a vision for the future of our lives and our families, our churches, our communities and our nation.  

Let's not overgraze on past spiritual food until we are wiped out with erosion and every ounce of nutrient is gone.

Let His water seep in and through us.

Picking up Rocks and Riding in Boats

I took a walk with a three year old young man today.   His mama was frazzled and he was bored.  "Grab your shoes," I told him.  He ran to his Mom to get his shoes on and ran to the door.  After fixing the shoestrings and the coat was on the way he wanted and I showed him the edge of the sidewalk and where we would walk...we were off. A dried piece of weed draped across an edge of the sidewalk, and I bent down to check it out.  He followed my lead and bent in half beside me.  I broke a piece off and gave him half and continued on our way.  Have you ever took a walk with a toddler?  And looked at things the way they do?  The broken sticks in the gutter, the ice and the small patch of snowing clinging to life are all gold to these little explorers.   A little encouragement is all they need to sift for treasure along the way. Hurry.  Time is running out . 6.5 hours left of 12/10/2012. 4 days le ft until the weekend. 15 days left until Christmas.   21 day s until we fall over the fiscal cliff & financial Armageddon.   Time is running out.
