Why Praise? Ego, Genie or Peace


I'm a "why" girl.  It is annoying, even to myself at times.

This morning as I tried to be still and Praise God, the question "Why?" came up.  Good thing God is patient with me!  

I've had these question asked of me.  "Does God have an ego trip problem, where he needs us to tell him how great he is?" 

"Is praise and worship about power and control?  You know, if I praise enough, then God will like me?"  

"Is Praise like rubbing the lamp and the genie pops out to grant me three wishes?  Priming the pump, so to speak?"

"Is praising God simply for discipline or show?  Along with beating one's back or walking on coals?"

Why is Praise so important to God and to His people?  Why does He say, "I will inhabit the praises of His people?"  

Do you ever doubt or feel afraid or alone?  Have you ever lost your way or are you completely on empty spiritually, mentally, physically etc.?   Do you ever get sick of "doing it all myself?"  Feeling like your greatest accomplishment is running in circles?


Praise!

Praise reminds us, God is God and we are not!

Praise acknowledges our dependence, reliance and needyness...it is humbling.  Gives us perspective and brings us back under the umbrella of God's protection.

Praise brings us into the light and we see all of the trash in our lives.

 Praise reminds us of the power, might, omniscience and reign of God.

Praise gives us the opportunity to climb on the lap of God and be held in His mighty arms.  

Praise reminds us of God's involvement in our lives.

When we live as if it is up to us, then we become deceived, haughty, proud and self-absorbed.

Praise builds our faith.  Why am I afraid?  Why do I doubt?  

Today is a good day to Praise God.  For He is amazing and mighty and all powerful!  And He loves you and I!!!!

Praise reminds us of the peace of God that passes all understanding.

And I can quit running in circles and Be still!

Picking up Rocks and Riding in Boats

I took a walk with a three year old young man today.   His mama was frazzled and he was bored.  "Grab your shoes," I told him.  He ran to his Mom to get his shoes on and ran to the door.  After fixing the shoestrings and the coat was on the way he wanted and I showed him the edge of the sidewalk and where we would walk...we were off. A dried piece of weed draped across an edge of the sidewalk, and I bent down to check it out.  He followed my lead and bent in half beside me.  I broke a piece off and gave him half and continued on our way.  Have you ever took a walk with a toddler?  And looked at things the way they do?  The broken sticks in the gutter, the ice and the small patch of snowing clinging to life are all gold to these little explorers.   A little encouragement is all they need to sift for treasure along the way.
