My Wealth IN Sisters

Taking a week to focus on the women in my life has been a blessing!

Today I honor the amazing women in my life that are my sisters.

Sometimes I can get in such poverty mentality of what I don't have that I lose track of the wealth that I do.

Seven sisters!  Just saying this makes me smile and maybe you cringe?!  I love every single one of them with everything I have.

Four years ago I called my Grandma Elaine to find information on my Dad and his family.  She answered an unanswered question that I had for years...did I have any more siblings?  I was thrilled to find out that I had two more sisters.

Tammie's grin is a lot like mine and some of the other sisters have said that her attitude is as well!  She is intelligent and a tad strong willed yet kinder then she lets on. Of course she has that cowgirl mentality but hers is on her Harley.  She is an accountant at a construction firm keeping all of the men in line!

Stacie is an awesome mom herself and very involved in her daughter's life.  She loves the outdoors and is quite the hunter herself!  I think she is detailed, intelligent and hardworking person who seems passionate in her sense of right and wrong.  She is a dedicated medical professional and volunteer!

Shelane was born when I was four and my Aunt Ally told me that I had to come and stay with her because Mom was having a baby.  They had drilled in me that I had to stay away from the cows who were new moms because they would hurt me and so I was afraid to come home because Mom had a baby.

Shelane is an amazing mother, gifted teacher, cowgirl and rancher.  She put herself through college carrying a chain saw and traipsing the Black Hills.  Her family is the most important thing in her live and her strength of organization and detail keeps it all together.  She is an elementary teacher who focuses on teaching her three!

Shonda came and was so tiny and I was old enough to be fascinated with her in her little bassinet and would swing her continually.  She is an amazing and very attentive and involved mother.  She is a nutritionist and personal trainer who is now training her four children.  She is compassionate and the most determined person I know.

Heidi was born after a ruckus New Year's Eve of Monopoly and the first one that I got to stay up late.  I pictured her before she came home as the Heidi chasing goats on top of the mountain and she is not far off!!  She got her degree in psychology and social work and works in a high school alternative school.  She is a great and adventurous mother to her two girls.

Jimmie came with chubby cheeks and bouncing hair.  She was named after the barrel racer, Jimmie Lou and her Great Grandpa Jim.  She was the quieter one of us and very sweet spirited but don't let that fool you.  When she is on a horse or hunting then look out!  She is raising two little girls and is an amazingly dedicated mom!  She has her degree in Dental Hygiene and very skilled in the medical field.

Delayna came when I was leaving for High School.  She loved dress up and was always in heels and a dress but that didn't keep her off the horses or the haybales all dressed up!  She has an amazing voice and taught herself piano.  When she gets a goal in her mind nothing can stop her.  She just graduated and is a Music Teacher looking for her first classroom.  She is also an amazing mom who plays dress up and has slumber parties with her two girls!

Thank you for letting me honor the most inspirational women I know.  I have been blessed beyond measure!

Starting a Journey

September 3, 2010 Originally posted How to Begin a Journey 1. Pick a destination or simply start. 2. Plan a detailed itinerary or just take the first step. 3. Pack everything or travel lightly. I am choosing to just begin. To leave behind the baggage, pick up a day pack, and go. Several nights before we moved to Ogallala, I was praying about the transition when I heard that still, small voice of God. In that moment, I knew He heard my Heart's Cry. He hears every whispered plea, every unspoken longing. If I truly sit with that truth, it humbles me. What courage, boldness, passion, and decisiveness I have when I remember: He never leaves or forsakes me. He provides for my every need according to His riches in glory. My hope is to encourage you He hears your Heart's Cry too.

Picking up Rocks and Riding in Boats

I took a walk with a three year old young man today.   His mama was frazzled and he was bored.  "Grab your shoes," I told him.  He ran to his Mom to get his shoes on and ran to the door.  After fixing the shoestrings and the coat was on the way he wanted and I showed him the edge of the sidewalk and where we would walk...we were off. A dried piece of weed draped across an edge of the sidewalk, and I bent down to check it out.  He followed my lead and bent in half beside me.  I broke a piece off and gave him half and continued on our way.  Have you ever took a walk with a toddler?  And looked at things the way they do?  The broken sticks in the gutter, the ice and the small patch of snowing clinging to life are all gold to these little explorers.   A little encouragement is all they need to sift for treasure along the way. A smooth stone sat contentedly on the driveway of a house.  I stopped to admire...
