Mom's Football 101

Football season is here again!  I love sitting in the stands on a cool fall evening with friends and family watching a good game of football.  Even a not so great game of football.

I love the hearts of our coaches. I have become-along with everyone who has lived in Nebraska for any length of time- a fanatic.

I love the band and their energy and zest for playing and entertaining.  I love the cheerleaders who are trying to fire up the crowd.

I love watching the little boys and girls standing on the other side of the chain link fence longing for their day on the field.

I don't understand all of it and I can't tell you various schematics or stances.

I can follow the heart.  I'm proud of the young men who put themselves out there on the field.  Who take the risk to do something like that.  Whether my sons are great or are not great-to me it is all about the character and the team.  I am just as proud of them if I see them standing on the sidelines with eyeballs on the game cheering and encouraging the guys on the field.  If I see them having a good attitude about others and they play with ALL of their heart-that's what I ask.

I'm proud of them when they are building their own work ethic in the gym and at the practices.  When they are setting goals for themselves and working through adversity to meet those goals.

Some people say that football isn't as important as this or that but I disagree!

Fully involved kids is critical to their academic and life success.  The attitudes and work ethic will impact all areas of their lives.

And who doesn't need to be a part of something bigger then themselves.

So whether they are running the concession, band, cheer, dance, parents, coaches, administration or football players---if they are putting all of their heart in to it then they are my kind of people! If they are focused on the team...they are my kind of people!

Men and women who run to the battle and chase after their dreams.   Who face that opponent whether mental or physical or spiritual head on!  Plow into the fray!

Who tackle their fears and their insecurities and wrap them up!!

Each game features two teams playing against each other.
• Each team is allowed 11 men on the field at a time. Any more than 11 could result in a penalty.
• Unlimited substitution is permitted, but players may only enter the field when the ball is dead.
• Each team is comprised of an offense, defense, and special teams.
• If team A has possession of the ball, they use their offensive team to attempt to advance the ball toward the opponents endzone.
• If team B has the ball, team A will use their defensive team to attempt to stop team B from advancing the ball.
• If a kicking play is expected, both teams will use their special teams. http://football.about.com/od/football101/a/football101team.htm

Starting a Journey

September 3, 2010 Originally posted How to Begin a Journey 1. Pick a destination or simply start. 2. Plan a detailed itinerary or just take the first step. 3. Pack everything or travel lightly. I am choosing to just begin. To leave behind the baggage, pick up a day pack, and go. Several nights before we moved to Ogallala, I was praying about the transition when I heard that still, small voice of God. In that moment, I knew He heard my Heart's Cry. He hears every whispered plea, every unspoken longing. If I truly sit with that truth, it humbles me. What courage, boldness, passion, and decisiveness I have when I remember: He never leaves or forsakes me. He provides for my every need according to His riches in glory. My hope is to encourage you He hears your Heart's Cry too.

1940 Canned Apple Butter: Family Root Cellar

I loved exploration as a child.  From opening the door and going down the stairs to get something from my Grandma's root cellar or exploring old homesteads while checking cows.  I credit my Mom with teaching us to appreciate those things that represented the people who had gone before us. When I moved with my husband and boys to a house on the family ranch-I began exploring immediately.  This was the house my Aunt and Uncle lived in during my childhood.  My Grandparents had lived there and many other families dating back to 1900 when it was built.   With two little boys in tow, I made my way to the root cellar and found a treasure cove.  Old text books belonging to the original family who had been a teacher, the original medicine cupboard, tools, trash and memorabilia.   I felt like an archeologist sifting through layers of debris representing generations and culture.  And I was.  I hauled truckloads of trash to the dump (some...

Diabetes-Opened to Disease OR Open to Connecting to my Strengths

I've tried living in denial for two years after the big D diagnoses was handed over.  Honestly, I just don't want to talk about it.  Outwardly seemly calm and disconnected from it.  Inwardly terrified. As a plant that is stressed is open to disease, injury and death so to our bodies are.  I opened myself up to this.  Stress, lack of sleep, bad nutrition, overweight and lack of exercise.  For some reason I believed that if I ran fast enough and worked hard enough, I would outrun my family genes.  The tiny room in the back of my brain locked with a key has kept the fear of this disease at bay even though I could hear its screaming when life quieted down. My Aunt died piece by piece to this disease.  First a heart attack and quadruple by-pass.  Then a toe.  Next a foot.  Legs came next along with more heart attacks.  Kidneys shutting down.  She died very young. When I was little, my Aunt Ally gave herself s...
