Prepping AND Trust

Today while reading the news I read that corn is up by 23% and wheat is up by 19%.  The overall food index climbed 6% points according to the AP.

Many people are pondering the differences between fear and faith; preparation and trust; planning or going with the flow.  If I completely trust God then should I prepare or if I prepare am I trusting? What is my responsibility?

As humans we are so reactionary.  Instead of correcting and thinking we just bounce from one extreme to the other.  For example, I have friends who only buy toilet paper when they are out.  They do not keep staples on hand or prepare for that rainy day.  This would scare me.  On the other hand, I have friends who believe that everything is completely up to them and no one including God cares.

People who use "waiting for God" as an excuse to not work drive me up a wall.  There is work out there if we are willing to do it.  When we use our gifts or lack of as a Christian excuse for laziness...just makes me crazy!  "It is not my gift to serve." "It's not my gift to work."  "My personality isn't like this or that."

"We obey and choose with our feet and our hands," I used to tell my boys.

I am choosing to stand with my feet firmly planted on a solid foundation knowing that my life is ultimately in God's hands.  He is my all in all.  I trust Him!  I know that He is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do.

My ultimate reliance is in Christ.  He alone can keep me and provide "all of my needs according to His riches in glory."

I am using my hands to trust and obey as well!

BECAUSE I trust Christ, I believe that I am to do my part and follow Him and His ways.   He expects me to work, to provide for my family, to put away for the winter and listen to His leading.

So here is my prepper list of "to do's" for my family and I:

1.  Spiritual preparation
Daily surrender
Practice prayer
Read His Word and memorize and meditate
Simplify my life
2. Relationships preparation
Spend time and energy "building up" relationships with family, church family and community
"Caching" memories and experiences
 3.  Mental preparation
Be a lifelong learner
Build a warehouse of skills and experiences
Work
4.  Physical preparation
Live healthy
Work
Provide for my family
Be debt free
Establish a savings

For me putting away for the winter or the rainy day is an act of generosity, obedience, trust and responsibility.  It is choosing, trusting and obeying with my hands and my feet.

Starting a Journey

September 3, 2010 Originally posted How to Begin a Journey 1. Pick a destination or simply start. 2. Plan a detailed itinerary or just take the first step. 3. Pack everything or travel lightly. I am choosing to just begin. To leave behind the baggage, pick up a day pack, and go. Several nights before we moved to Ogallala, I was praying about the transition when I heard that still, small voice of God. In that moment, I knew He heard my Heart's Cry. He hears every whispered plea, every unspoken longing. If I truly sit with that truth, it humbles me. What courage, boldness, passion, and decisiveness I have when I remember: He never leaves or forsakes me. He provides for my every need according to His riches in glory. My hope is to encourage you He hears your Heart's Cry too.

Picking up Rocks and Riding in Boats

I took a walk with a three year old young man today.   His mama was frazzled and he was bored.  "Grab your shoes," I told him.  He ran to his Mom to get his shoes on and ran to the door.  After fixing the shoestrings and the coat was on the way he wanted and I showed him the edge of the sidewalk and where we would walk...we were off. A dried piece of weed draped across an edge of the sidewalk, and I bent down to check it out.  He followed my lead and bent in half beside me.  I broke a piece off and gave him half and continued on our way.  Have you ever took a walk with a toddler?  And looked at things the way they do?  The broken sticks in the gutter, the ice and the small patch of snowing clinging to life are all gold to these little explorers.   A little encouragement is all they need to sift for treasure along the way. A smooth stone sat contentedly on the driveway of a house.  I stopped to admire...
