Kind of an odd twist of words and sounds like a medical ointment. However, I've been thinking that we tend to swing from one extreme to another in our views. On one hand, is preparation that is so self-reliant and fear based outside of trusting God or the other is the throwing hands in the air and "just relying on God."
So how do I prepare in faith or out of faith or because of faith?
The only place to go is to the Word. What is faith?
- Faith is believing without seeing and trusting God to be who He says He is and to do what He says He will do. "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Heb. 11:1
- Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.
- Faith comes from hearing the Word of God.
- Faith without deeds is as dead as a spirit without the body. "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless." James 2:14-26
- "Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart..." Prov. 3:5-6
What does God say about preparation?
- God says to be like ants. "Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler. Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest" Prov. 6
- Wise people save. "The wise man saves for the future but the foolish man spends whatever he gets."Proverbs 21:20
- Four things are small on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise: The ants are not a strong people, but they prepare their food in the summer; Proverbs 30:24
- "Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again." Ecc. 11:1
